The Symbian Foundation has revealed some images of what’s in store on Symbian^4.

The screenshots shows that they redesigned widgets, app categories and search, pop-up menus, and a standard-issue numeric touchscreen keypad.

Some of the features are well known for android and Iphone users but will defiantly enhance the Symbian Experience.

Nokia is expecting to use Symbian^4 in at least some of its devices by early 2011 in the meantime Google will be releasing the Android 3.0  Gingerbread end of 2010 and that version is supposed to come with huge changes.

Although many will argue that their isn’t much new under the hood of the new Symbian^4 when compared to the current completion one thing I do think Symbian still does better that any other current OS is the normal things you expect from a mobile phone like contact list and SMS/MMS.

As an example it has a nice “Wow” effect that I can see all my facebook and twitter friends on my contact list on my android or iPhone but I would rather have a normal contact list to use for calls and SMS – plus I don’t have to use data for everything I do.

A virtual keyboard is a very good idea for the Symbian^4 which will help developers making localization easier e.g. local language or dialects.

For the current design value, I think it looks like an early version of android or a Chinese copy OS but let’s not forget Symbian still has a very large developer base doing some very good themes.
