Frustrated guy reports himself to the Anti Piracy Group

Something is rotten in the state of Denmark…A Danish citizen has become so tired of the Danish copyright law that he has reported himself to the Anti-Piracy Group.

In the letter to the anti Piracy Group, Henrik Andersen confesses that he broke the copy protection on 100 DVD movies and 10 seasons of TV series to copy them for personal use. The reason for Henrik to report himself to the Anti Piracy Group in Denmark was to start a debate about the copyright law.

Carina Christensen, Danish Culture Minister

The Danish Culture Minister, Carina Christensen - Perpaps she dosent understand the law?

In Denmark you are permitted to make a digital copy for yourself. But it is illegal to the break the copy protection.
According to the Danish Ministry of Culture it has always been the intention that copy protection is to be changed, so you can make a copy for personal use – but somehow it seems they forgot to mention that.

PC World Denmark

PC World Denmark has also been reported to the Anti Piracy Group

But it doesn’t stop there, “TV2 Internet”, PC World Denmark and a TV program from the national broadcaster DR has also been reported by Henrik to the Anti-Piracy Group for a inviting to infringement of the copyright law. According to Henrik, these media all chose to tell their readers / viewers that they can make digital copies of their DVDs. They forget, however, tell you that it is illegal to break the copy protection thus inviting to an infringement of the copyright law.

Henrik Andersen has done all this this for a reason - to have the law tested in the courts. In the letter to the Anti Piracy Group, he writes:

"Since the Culture Minister sees no reason to change the law, it must, in my view be because she does not understand the problem; therefore I choose to report myself to you, to see if you are prepared to get the legislation tested in the courts. So I ask you to consider the following:

Is it okay with your employer, The movie industry, that a consumer takes a digital copy of a DVD with built-in copy lockout for use in, for example a mediacenter when the intention behind the legislation was to make this possible, although it currently considered illegal.

If no, would you be willing to accept a change of legislation that makes it legal for anyone to break a copy lockout to take a digital copy?"

So far the Danish Anti Piracy Group has not responded directly to the case but told media in Denmark they see this as a political case.
